Synopsis:

This is a 3-month part-time program to Dental Assisting. This program aims to train you to become competent and efficient dental assistants. Students are taught to prepare instruments and assist dentist proficiently in various treatment procedures such as cleaning, fillings, surgeries, and other complex works, infection control and administrative duties. This intensive program combines theory, practical, role play and on-the-job training.

After each module, students will be assessed on both their theoretical knowledge and practical expertise (where applicable). The assessment is in the form of:

Synopsis:
Dental Charting is the method of recording the current conditions in the patient's mouth. Besides recording the numbers of teeth present or absent, it also records past treatment done. This forms the baseline record before the start of treatment, and the record of follow-up treatment; where it can be used to track the progress of patient's oral health. It can be a useful forensic tool in identifying a person.

This module will cover the most basic procedure performed in a dental clinic - scaling and polishing. Operative or restorative dentistry is the part of dentistry which focuses on preserving the tooth. The tooth is restored to its original form and shape by using different types of restorative materials. Class I, II, III, IV and V describe the classification of cavities based on the location of the cavities, which determine the type of restorative material to be used.

Prosthodontic covers removable and fixed prosthodontics in which missing tooth structure, a whole tooth or teeth are replaced with a prosthesis. There are 2 types of removable prosthesis – partial and full denture. Fixed prosthodontic refers to crown or bridge. This module will cover examination, different stages of the prosthesis preparation, delivery and post-delivery care.

Dental implants are used for replacement of missing tooth/teeth. Implants are titanium-alloy roots placed within the bone for attachment of crown, bridge or denture. Synopsis:
The module covers 3 important parts of dental patient management; radiology, basic pharmacology and emergency management. Radiology is the investigation for diagnosing a dental condition. Dental assistant should have the basic knowledge of the different types of radiograph (x-rays) used in dentistry, radiation safety and processing a radiograph. Different kinds of medications are prescribed in a dental clinic setting for various conditions. The most common medicines are for pain control and antibiotics to treat or prevent infection. Syncope (fainting) is one of the common dental emergencies that can occur in a dental clinic. Dental assistant plays a vital role in the assistance to the dentist by early identification of the patient’s condition to stabilizing the patient's condition.
